Godspell: A Story About Community, Created by Community
How One Musical Became the Beginning of Something Bigger
Every production begins with an idea. Sometimes that idea comes from a director. Sometimes from an audience member.
And sometimes... It comes from the actors themselves.
When conversations began about launching Theatre United's first full production of our 45th Season, a message came through to our Executive Director.
Godspell.
One message from a local actor that asked “ Would Theatre United be willing to help us put on this show?”
The board listened and
Not because it was easy. Not because it was popular. But because it perfectly represented what Theatre United is trying to become.
At its heart, Godspell isn't simply a musical.
It's a story about people from different backgrounds learning to build trust, compassion, forgiveness, friendship, and hope together.
It's about community. And that's exactly why Theatre United exists.
Theatre United was created because our region has incredible talent.
Every year, actors, singers, musicians, directors, designers, and technicians have so much talent and we e asked ourselves a simple question:
"Why don’t they have professional opportunities here?"
What if local artists could continue creating meaningful theatre right here at home while being compensated for their time, dedication, passion, and talent?
What if students could see high-quality live performances without their schools worrying about admission costs?
What if theatre wasn't just entertainment...
...but a resource for education, connection, and community?
That vision became Theatre United.
Our goal is twofold.
First, we want to provide meaningful, professional-level theatrical opportunities for performers and production artists throughout the Parkland.
Second, we want to remove financial barriers for schools by touring productions directly into classrooms and auditoriums so students can experience live theatre completely free of charge.
Every ticket purchased helps make that possible.
This year's production of Godspell is more than our inagural show.
It's another step toward building that future.
You'll see local performers giving everything they have on stage. You'll hear music that has inspired audiences for generations.
You'll witness a production built by volunteers, artists, designers, musicians, and community members who believe theatre has the power to change lives.
But the impact doesn't stop when the curtain closes.
This season also launches our Wrapped in Love Community Heart Project, a partnership between Theatre United and Big Door Coffee House.
For every $5 donated, a handmade crochet heart will be added to a growing installation displayed during the production of Godspell.
Each heart represents someone who believes in building a stronger community.
After the production, the complete installation will move to Big Door Coffee House as a permanent reminder of what happens when people come together.
Your donation creates twice the impact.
Half supports Big Door Coffee House's vision of building a future Community Center—a welcoming place where neighbors can gather, connect, and find support.
The other half supports Theatre United's mission of expanding professional theatre opportunities while continuing to provide live performances to local students at absolutely no cost to their schools.
It's one donation.
One heart.
Two organizations.
One shared belief that community is stronger when we create together.
Whether you purchase a ticket, donate a crochet heart, volunteer backstage, or simply tell a friend about the show, you're helping build something far greater than one production.
You're helping create a future where the arts remain accessible, meaningful, and alive throughout our region.
We hope you'll join us.
Come experience Godspell.
Help wrap our community in love.
And become part of the story we're writing together.
